Hi there! I’m Mel,
The Abortion Doula.
As an abortion doula, I provide emotional and practical support to people who are navigating abortion.
The Abortion Doula is a project to expand this support to anyone curious to learn more, whether for personal reasons or to support others in their community.
I don’t provide individual abortion doula support here, but you can check. out the resources page for some options.
Why The Abortion Doula
When I first started providing abortion support, I realized that open conversations about abortion were rare in both my personal life and professional circles.
Even those who identified as pro-choice seemed to know very little about abortion or shied away from actually talking about it. But the more I talked about abortion, the more comfortable people became asking questions and sharing their own experiences.
Learning about abortion stigma helped me understand how it can affect anyone connected to abortion—including those who have had or will have abortions, those who support them, and those who work in fields where they may navigate it. Stigma is one of the biggest barriers to abortion access because it discourages us from having open conversations, sharing information, and seeking support when it’s needed.
I’m determined to facilitate spaces where we can really talk about abortion—and not just in hushed tones—so I created The Abortion Doula.
A bit more about me
I’m a trained abortion, birth, and pregnancy loss doula, with a master’s in Sexology Research & Intervention from l’Université du Québec à Montréal, where I also specialized in sexual education. I have a special interest in how stigma impacts sexual and reproductive experiences.
In 2017, I co-founded the Montreal Abortion Access Project in my hometown with a group of incredible doulas and sexologists. From 2019-2024 I coordinated an abortion support program at Birth Mark, where I created and facilitated an abortion doula training.
I’m currently the health promotion coordinator at Action Canada for Sexual Health & Rights, and preparing to facilitate my own abortion doula training alongside my workshop offerings.
And, most importantly, I’m a dog mom to the smallest pup I know—a whole 5 lbs on a heavy day.

I’m not the only abortion doula by any means, but I’ve often been the only one in the room and described as the abortion doula so I’ve embraced the title.
